DAVID SERGEProducer/Director of Photography
David is a co-founder and director of The Bigger Picture. He graduated from the University of Malta in 2003 with a B.Communications (Honours) degree. In 2003, David directed, shot and edited the docu-drama 'Against All Odds - The Quest for Malta,' broadcast on The History Channel. This was nominated as one of the Best Historical documentaries at the World Congress of History Producers, Toronto.
In 2004, David placed first at the MCC National Film Competition, with his short film 'The Legionnaire's Spear'. This film also won prizes for Best Photography and the Special Jury Award for Technical Achievement. It also won first prize at the Golden Knight International Film Festival, making David the first Maltese in 33 years to win this award. David has worked on numerous foreign film productions, both in Malta and overseas, including Steven Spielberg's 'Munich'.
To date, David has directed and shot numerous commercials, for the local and foreign market. He produced and directed seven award winning short films. His latest, '.303' won Best Picture and 2 other awards at the International TV Short Film Festival and also made the Official Selection at the Palm Springs International
Short Fest in California.
David was selected to attended the Insight Out Digital Cinema and HDTV workshop in Berlin and conducted a workshop in High Definition at the Arab Film Festival in Lebanon. Last year he became the first Maltese to attend the prestigious Berlinale Talent Campus as a Cinematographer and recently also won the JCI award for entrepreneurial achievement.
